HYALURONIDASE AFTERCARE

  • Feb 11
  • 2 min read

Hyaluronidase treatment is a popular procedure used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers quickly and safely. Whether correcting overfilled areas or addressing complications, this treatment requires proper aftercare to ensure smooth recovery and optimal results. Understanding how to care for your skin after hyaluronidase injections can reduce side effects, promote healing, and maintain your skin’s health.

This guide covers practical aftercare tips, common concerns, and what to expect during recovery from hyaluronidase treatment.

What Is Hyaluronidase Treatment?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, the main component in many dermal fillers. When injected, it dissolves unwanted filler material, allowing for correction of overfilling, lumps, or asymmetry. It is also used to manage rare complications such as vascular occlusion caused by filler injections.

Because hyaluronidase acts quickly, the treatment is often performed in a clinic setting with careful monitoring. After the procedure, the skin may show mild redness, swelling, or bruising, which typically resolves within a few days.

Aftercare Steps:

Taking the right steps immediately after your hyaluronidase treatment can minimize discomfort and support healing.

  • Avoid Touching the area for 2 hours - If advised to continue massage to help break down the filler please ensure this is done every hour for 5 minutes with clean hands (thorughly washed with an antibacterial soap or wearing disposable gloves)

  • Apply Cold Compresses only if you are very swollen on the first day

  • Keep the Area Clean

  • Avoid Makeup - Refrain from applying makeup on the treated area for at least 12 hours to reduce the risk of infection or irritation.

If you are booking in for a refill appointment post dissolving, please respect the time frame advised by your practitioner. It is important that you do not have any other treatments elsewhere before returning back to have the area refilled.

Managing Common Side Effects

Mild side effects are common and usually temporary after hyaluronidase treatment. Knowing how to manage them helps you stay comfortable.

  • Swelling and Redness

These symptoms typically peak within 24 hours and improve over 2 to 3 days. Continue cold compresses and keep your head elevated while resting.

  • Bruising

Bruising can occur at injection sites and surrounding areas. These bruises will be very dark in colour (blue, black, purple). Applying arnica gel or vitamin K cream may help speed up healing. Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements unless advised by your doctor.

  • Allergic Reactions

Though rare, watch for signs such as itching, rash, or difficulty breathing. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience these symptoms. These will normally be within the first 30-60 minutes post treatment.
