Getting lip fillers can enhance your natural beauty and boost your confidence. However, the results depend not only on the procedure itself but also on how well you care for your lips afterward. What to Expect Right After Your Lip Filler Treatment

Immediately after your appointment, your lips may feel tender, swollen, or slightly bruised. These effects are normal and usually subside within a few days. You might notice:

  • Swelling or puffiness

  • Bruises or redness around injection sites

  • Tenderness or sensitivity

Understanding these common reactions helps you stay calm and follow aftercare steps confidently.

CRUCIAL AFTERCARE POINTS:

  • Avoid touching the lips for 6 hours - this includes any product application

  • Do not apply lip balm for 6 houts

  • Do not apply lipstick or makeup to the lips for a minimum of 12 hours.

  • No smoking for 2 hours. When smoking is resumed the device must always be placed in the middle of the lips.

  • NO MASSAGING - unless otherwise instructed.

  • NO ICE! This can crystalize your filler

  • Arnica can be used for bruising

  • Sleep on your back where possible for the first 1 to 2 nights to avoid pressure on the lips.

  • Avoid kissing (and/or any oral activity), using straws or excessive lip movement for 2-3 weeks. Filler is mouldable, however you mould it - your lips will stay this way!

  • Avoid dental work, facial treatments, or aesthetic procedures for at least 2 weeks unless advised otherwise.

  • Keep the lips hydrated and apply SPF lip protection once makeup use is resumed. Your lips have been stretched, and most likely will get drier quicker, so it is crucial you hydrate them. No crusty lips around here thanks!

Avoid Heat and Strenuous Activity

Heat can increase swelling and prolong healing. For at least 48 hours after your treatment:

  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and sunbathing.

  • Skip intense exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating.

  • Stay out of hot tubs or pools where bacteria might irritate your skin.

Keeping your lips cool and rested supports the best possible outcome.

Follow Up with Your Practitioner

Your injector knows your treatment plan best. Keep in touch with them by:

  • Attending any scheduled follow-up appointments. If you have been advised to have another treatment for best results please stick to this time frame!

  • Reporting any unusual pain, excessive swelling, lumps, or signs of infection immediately.

  • Asking questions about your aftercare or concerns. DO NOT USE CHATGPT!

Professional guidance ensures your lips heal properly and look their best.

When to Seek Medical Attention

While most side effects are mild and temporary, watch for warning signs that require prompt care:

  • Severe pain that does not improve with painkillers

  • Excessive swelling or bruising spreading beyond the lips

  • Signs of infection such as pus, fever, or warmth around the area

  • Allergic reactions like rash, itching, or difficulty breathing

If you experience any of these, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
