Aftercare is often overlooked but is essential for long-term success in managing hyperhidrosis. Proper care helps:

  • Reduce irritation and skin reactions

  • Maintain treatment effectiveness

  • Prevent infections or complications

  • Improve skin health and comfort

Skin Care After Treatments

Many hyperhidrosis treatments affect the skin directly. For example, Botox injections can cause mild swelling or redness, while surgery may leave incisions that need special attention.

Tips for Skin Care Post-Treatment

  • Keep the area clean and dry. Use gentle, fragrance-free cleansers to avoid irritation.

  • Avoid scrubbing or rubbing. Pat the skin dry instead of rubbing with a towel.

  • Apply soothing creams if recommended. Products with aloe vera or calendula can calm inflammation.

  • Avoid hot showers or baths for 24-48 hours. Heat can increase swelling and discomfort.

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing. This reduces friction and allows the skin to heal.

If you notice signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, or pus, contact your healthcare provider promptly.

Managing Sweat with Antiperspirants

Antiperspirants remain a frontline defense for many with hyperhidrosis. Using them correctly enhances their effectiveness and minimizes skin problems.

Lifestyle Adjustments to Reduce Sweating

Certain lifestyle habits can help control excessive sweating and support aftercare efforts.

Practical Lifestyle Tips

  • Wear natural fabrics like cotton or linen. These materials allow better airflow and absorb moisture.

  • Stay hydrated. Drinking water helps regulate body temperature.

  • Avoid spicy foods and caffeine. These can trigger sweating episodes.

  • Practice stress management techniques. Stress and anxiety often worsen sweating.

  • Maintain a healthy weight. Excess body weight can increase sweating.

Incorporating these habits can reduce sweat triggers and improve your overall comfort.
