If an area has been overfilled, the product can spread beyond the site of injection. This is a particularly common problem with lip filler. It may also be caused by poor placement and the wrong product or a combination of both. For lips, once the product spreads beyond the body of the lip and starts to bulge over the borders, they lose their youthful definition. The result is a raised lump of filler frequently seen above the upper lip, which looks unsightly, casts shadows in photos and makes the philtrum puffy.
